Before when Tv's first came out, their purpose was to have a captive audience and to entertain families. The first channel that was available for families to view was the BBC (british broadcasting corporation). They came about in 1936 who were then joined by independent television in 1955. BBC 2 was released later on in 1964 and then channel 4 was launched in 1982 and then 5 came out on TV screens in 1997.When Sky launched it introduced the idea of multi channel channel viewing and since then Tv has been delivered to us in more ways than before.
Each and everyone of these channels have an ident. The reason for this is so that the channel can be recognised easier and also to promote a channel. These days there are hundreds of channels and this is also one of the many reasons it is important for a channel to have an indent to establish its unique identity.
An ident is usually a short animation or digital animation used to identify a channel. Also the purpose of an ident is to grab viewers attention and boost the brand logo's popularity. Usually the ident symbolises the channels content like what shows to expect on them and what age groups they are aimed at by the use of certain objects, shapes, colors and environments.
Most of these idents have three things in common:
1.They always include their Logo
2.They have sound but not to much
3.They sometimes have someone announcing the next program
For example
This ident uses Homer from the Simpsons to promote their logo as the Simpsons were a very popular Tv program on the channel at that time. Also a voice over is added at the end to announce the next show which was The Simpsons.
