What is editing

THE GLOAMING

Editing is a selected series of camera shots from different angles put together to tell a story. Most things you see on the TV or in the cinema has been through the editing process.

Elliptical editing is an editing technique used to save time by skipping an event with out confusing the viewer.

Long shots are used to show viewers the environment of the main character and also to show off whatever prop they may have.

Non-diagetic sound can be many things. It can be music playing to go with a scene or a sound that is heard on shot with a non visible source.

In the video a jump cut is used when the woman bends over to pick up her boyfriends ring. The jump cut is used to save time and also add the effect of her sights being locked and focused on the ring.

Hustle
An overhead establishing shot allows us to see the geography of a location and what is happening in the scene.

A shot Reverse shot is when the shot cuts back and forth from two characters. By doing this, we assume that they are looking at each other.

An eyeliner shot is when you cut between two fairly close head shots and their eyelines are matching.

It cuts to other members cuts to other members of the group is that so we are able to see not just their faces, but their reactions to the plan and to each other.

A wipe is a transition which is used to move one topic or scene

There are many effects of using quick cuts. Some of these are setting a quicker pace. It can create tension and gives it more energy and also makes it more visually exciting and dynamic.

 INVISIBLE ART

Crosscutting is cutting between two stories or showing to different things happening at the same time in two different location.

Reaction shots are shots that are often used to cause tension and to capture the expression of someones reaction.

Seamless editing is making edits so small or un noticeable that you don't realize its been made. also known as the invisible art.

A jump cut is a technique that when used makes the video seem like they have jumped.

a flash back is a scene where someone thinks back on a past event. It can also be referred to a non linear narrative structure

Poetically editing makes the viewers think more when watching what is being shown. this makes the viewer an active viewer.
