Photography Evaluation

Recently I was given a task involving me pitching some pictures to a magazine. I had to do a bit of photography research, make a mind map and create a mood board and then take the pictures and pitch them.

At first I didn't really know what style of photography was most interested in after making my mind map so i decided to look online on and in magazines for pictures that inspired me. During my research I noticed that I was really drawn to pictures related to food or pictures of dishes from restaurant menu's. I then decided that the food photography style was how I was going to shoot my pictures and was most achievable.

I then started thinking of ways I could make sense of the food pictures and that's when the idea of incorporating my new diet in with the project. I decided that it would be a good way to show off the benefits of my diet and at the same time, show off my photography skills and narrow down my choices of magazines I could pitch my pictures to.

After establishing what pictures I would be taking I started taking them. I took the pictures of the course of 4 days. There wasn't any specific routine I followed, taking pictures was simply a case of taking of picture of a meal I was eating if my camera was near by. After taking the pictures, I realized that most of the things I shoot originally came from Tesco with the exception of roughly 3 pictures. I then came up with the idea to pitch the pictures to Tesco magazine and made my video pitch.

I thing I should have color corrected some of the photos to match the style of the photos I saw in the Tesco magazine and maybe added a suitable back ground for some of the pictures. I did get an idea to shoot my video pitch out side in a garden of some sort as my video pitch and photos was slightly themed to life style but due to the lac of time and help, I had to use the easiest option which was my room. Also I think establishing the magazine I wanted to pitch to before taking the pictures would have given me a better chance of achieving photos to a certain standard.

Although some of the pictures could have been better with a bit of color correcting, I think they came out well and the project over all came together pretty nicely. I enjoyed taking pictures of my meals and showing them to my friends and family so I would say the idea I came up with went very well. Also I was able to teach a few of my friends what a Pescatarian diet was.

Is DVD Dead? UNIT 58 DVD MENU DESIGN and Authoring

CDs were invented by Sony and Phillips in 1980 and from CD's, later on in 1998, Dvds were invented. in the US and Europe and also sold publicly around that time as well. They then became popular around 2001 but still people rented video cassettes around then. Later on in 2003 to 2006 Blu ray discs started to come into publicity and were released with the Play stations 3 consoles on the 11th of November in 2006. DVDs still exist till this present day but there are signs that indicate to DVDs loosing its popularity and disappearing.

DVDs are the thin circle CD disc's used in DVD players and game consoles mostly these days to watch films. DVD The word DVD originally meant digital versatile disc. People have always use DVD discs to store data which is why we are able to watch films and shows on them.

When you put a DVD into a DVD player you always have options to chose from whether its to watch the film or check out the special features of the film that may also be on the disc. You can also skip scenes and go straight to where you left off with the scene selection option and also you often have the ability to turn on subtitles.

DVDs can be found almost anywhere these days whether its in shops or online. Media stores like HMV are filled with both Blu ray DVD discs and normal DVD discs. DVDs are also sold in convenient stores such as ASDA, Tesco, Morrison and sometimes even corner shops.

Although DVDs are still currently quiet popular, Online movies and entertainment in general is always evolving and slowly dominating. The new generations of students and young adults are more familiar with the new evolving technologies such as the internet and pocket portable devices which can hold way more data than an common DVD can hold allowing them to be able to stream and watch things anywhere. Also with the DVD portable devices, you have to have a disc drive and a screen in proportion to the device and disc drive which would probably take up a lot of space in order for you to be able to watch something. It is simply easier to stream watch things on to things like android phones and tablets as well as consoles at home these days which is why DVDs are loosing their popularity and businesses and stores like HMV are loosing money.

I personally think that DVDs in the next 15 years will be the equivalent to video cassettes and that the next main form of data storing will be on memory chips. an example of what it could possibly be like would be Nintendo 64 game cartridges or game boy cartridges depending on the size of the device. The reason why I think that will be the result is because of things like USB's and SD cards. The interesting things they both have in common is that they are both very portable, currant students and younger generations are used to memory card storage for data and have the potential to store lots of data.

Presentation for Photography project

Introduction
Hello class, today my presentation will be on a photography idea involving food that I probably would pitch to an existing magazine if I wanted to have it published.

My research
Before I came up with my idea I had to do a bit of research to understand what kind of thing I should be doing once I had my solid final idea. (Show some images of photography I looked at)

What I mostly took pictures of and why I took the pictures
Eventually I decided I would take pictures of food. The reason why I chose food photography is because I found my self looking at it a lot while I was researching. I also became a pescetarian recently so I thought this style of photography would be best to show off the foods I can still eat and the variety of food I can still eat with my changed diet.

Unit 6 Critical Approaches Prime time

It is very clear that evening weekend TV is a competitive on-going battle for audiences all over the Uk for both BBC1 and ITV1. Recently The Voice and Britain’s got talent have been in the papers for some reason or another as a result of each show viewing figures being high. In this essay I will be explaining how viewing figures are recorded and what certain things mean.

Barb is the name of the organisation that compiles television ratings for the major broadcasters and advertisers in the UK. Barb is also the official source of television viewing figures in the Uk.

Viewing figures are numbers that represent the amount of people watching a specific channel or show at certain times of the day or week. The viewing figures are gathered by about 4000 houses in the Uk which have Barb boxes. Barb boxes are devices that connect to someone’s TV to record what channel is being watched and when. The 4000 houses, with the Barb boxes hooked into their TV’s, represent all our viewing habits and is where all the data comes from to provide Barb with viewing figures. They are measured by ages, gender, social groups and ABC1s.

When you look over viewing figures, you'll notice there are two kinds of recorded figures. The first kind is quality figures and the second kind is quantity. The reason why there is a difference is because the quality figures are the figures that indicate whether something is good or not and the quantity figures indicate how much people have viewed it.

There are different types of viewing figures that get recorded like figures for channels and broadcasted shows on the channels. These are either recorded as Overnight figures or over all figures. Overnight figures record views that a channel or show gets over a night and over all figures record the views that happen over a week. If a view is not recorded in a week, barb will use the recorded viewing figures from the 4000 houses with the barb boxes instead.

AI refers to audience appreciation index which is a score out of 100 that is used as an indicator of the public's most appreciated show whether it is radio or television in the Uk. The AI of a program is calculated by Barb to get an official AI score. Go good example of a show that has got a really good AI score is Doctor who which has maintained a score between 85 and 87 out of 100 recently. This means lots of people enjoy doctor who.

The way that we view things is changing as generations grow older especially now that the majority of Television watchers have internet which can have a big effect on TV viewing figures. Recently on The Sun news paper website I noticed a story saying that doctor who was down by 1 million views on Tv. This could be as a result of people watching it on BBC iplayer. Also some times people just wait for seasonal DVDs come out.
