Ms Jenny Smith,
Head of Talent,
Talkback Thames Productions Ltd,
20 - 21 Newman Street,
London W1T 1PG

30th May 2012

Dear Ms Smith,
I hope you are well, I am writing to ask if there are currently any opportunities for runners at Talkback Thames.
I recently graduated from City of Westminster College and have a National Diploma for TV and Film/Creative Media Production. Over the course of my time at college, I was lucky enough to do voluntary work placements at The London MCM Comicon Expo and voluntary work at the Master Card Festival at Southbank. I really enjoyed my work experience and learnt much about conventions and how festivals work and I also picked up some health and safety procedures like what to do in a fire situation and how to keep customers happy.
I am passionate about the TV industry – especially entertainment – and am a massive fan of shows like America's Best Dance Crew and Britain’s Got Talent. I know I have a lot to learn and would consider it a privilege to be employed on one of your productions.
I appreciate that you must have many applicants, but ask you to consider me for any vacancies coming up at Talkback Thames. I am a hard working, honest and reliable good team player and would be very pleased to be given the opportunity to work for your company.
I can be contacted on 0794 7450011 or via email on jordantkwhite@hotmail.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you shortly.
Kind regards,

Jordan White

Video Elevator Pitch for the CWC Ident

Animation Ident Evaluation

In class we have been learning how to make different kinds of animations and also we have been learning about idents.

Recently we were given a task to make an Ident for the college and apart of that task was to incorporate one of the stop motion techniques we learnt about.

To complete the task we had to work in groups so I grouped with Jacq Charls and Eyyaz Christy. The first thing we did together was research. We thought we would check out a few other idents  for TV channels and at the same time we watched some other claymation things on Youtube.

After researching various other idents, we each came up with an idea for one of our own. Then we pitched our ideas to each other in the group to find out who's idea sounded the best. Once we made our decision we then all made story boards for that idea. As soon as Eyyaz bought some clay for us to use for our ident, we started recording.

Recording only took 2 and a half hours to get done. During the course of that time we took pictures of my hand writing the CWC initials and both me and Eyyaz moulding the clay into the shapes we needed.  We took 2 pictures every time it moved to make it seem as if the clay was alive. The first shapes we made was the CWC logo initials and then we made it seem as if the CWC morphed into clay people and then into a ball using the stop motion techniques we learnt.

Originally I thought that the college ident project was going to be a long but fortunately our group was able to breeze through it with no problems or delays. We all worked hard and paced our selfs and got things out of the way as soon as we were faced with them. Over all it took us 2 day to complete with the hard work we had put into it. The first day was the recording day and the second day was the editing day.

We mainly focused on the claymation animation technique in our ident because the clay was the easiest to manipulate and morph which was exactly what we needed to give life to the college initials (CWC) in the video.

Once we completed our ident, we uploaded the video to youtube and then embedded it to our blogs so we could receive feedback from some of our class mates. All of the feed back we got for the ident was positive. People said they liked the CWC morphing  idea and the music we picked although one person said the music didn't suit the theme and another person said they wished it was longer.

Overall I am pleased with my groups ident. I think that if we completed our ident any quicker than we did, it wouldn't be as good as it is. My favorite bit of the ident is the bit where the CWC initials morph into people. The only problem I have with the ident is the bit just after the camera pans down from the college logo. The camera focuses back on the morph characters and they collide and turn in to a ball to symbolise unity but the way they come together can be very miss leading as some people have said that it looks like the morphs kiss. Other than that I am proud and happy with the ident me and my group have produced.

Frankie Boyle

Statement on Behalf of Disability charity:

Our charity, Disability Trust has been campaigning for many years to provide a better future for the disabled people who need it and to make local environments for disabled people as pleasant as possible.

I am not sure if you are aware, but the power of TV is very strong and is a big influence on the many viewers that watch it. One of the main goals of our charity is to get people to treat the disabled community with more respect and raise awareness. Such an offensive joke shouldn't have been thrown at Harvey.

We believe your joke was a bit extreme and hurtful to not only Harvey and his family but to many others who suffer from his condition. We also think it was very wrong of Channel 4 to allow such a thing to be said on the comedy show and think Frankie Boyle deserves to be censored by Ofcom. Although some action has been taken against the joke, we are still disappointed in Channel 4 for allowing such a thing to be broadcast on TV and all around London. It makes such a successful company look unprofessional because it makes it seem as if the level of respect for disabled people Channel 4 has is low.

In future we hope that Channel 4 can prevent offensive jokes aimed specifically towards any group or race of people and perhaps promote equality a bit more to change the attitudes of some who may have been affected by the joke both positive and negatively.

We think it would be a good idea for Channel 4 to produce an awareness program that will both boost the confidence of people who are disabled or looking after a disabled person and teach other people the importance of looking out for people who are disabled or looking after someone who is. We can imagine doing something like this will win the respect of many people and possibly boost your channel's rating.
