War Photography

What is War Photography?
War photography is exactly what it sounds like. War photography is a type  of photography where the photographer will go to a war zone and put them selfs in danger just to get a raw photos of whats going on and the environment hoping to make money off them also to show the horrors of war and the effect it has on people.

Here are some examples:
KTAB news - UK Afghanistan deaths exceed 10000000
War in Iraq - Images of War, Destruction, and Madness
War in Iraq - Images of War, Destruction, and Madness

Where does the work come from?
The first war photographer was an anonymous American who took a number of photos during the Mexican American War, in 1847. A lot of war photographers are freelancers so in order to get work, the photographer would go to their local news companies and ask if they are interested in hiring them. Then if they get hired, they then often ask what kind of pictures the company is looking for or excepting from the photographer. War photographers show and expose the reality of war and sometime get pictures that can affect the way someone feels towards a war.

How do they make money?(commission, Royalty Sales, Freelance Salaried etc)
The photographers would  make money by showing the news paper company the pictures he took while at the war zone and around the country that has been a victim of war and hope that the person analysing their photos likes what they see. Usually the freelancer will have a certain salary but if the pictures are very good, the photographer may receive more than usual.

Where are their photographs used? (Magazines, News papers, Hoardings, Books, webpages, CD ROMs, for individual clients, Galleries)
Usually War photographers work for news papers but sometimes they work for both news papers and the internet. Also a War photographer may take photos for a spastic magazine like a war magazine or a peace protest magazine.

How do the photographs affect the Viewer?

Photographers usually affect the viewers emotionally by making showing them the disasters that war causes making the viewer want to do something about it. There is a actually a saying that war photographers that could possibly be motivation to all the war photographers who are aware of it. The saying is 'all war photographers want an image that could stop war' but unfortunately their is no proof that it has actually stopped war yet.  no one has ever achieved it.

Evaluation for the magazine show

What we did
On the 25th of october our media class recorded a magazine show we had come up with.

How we did it
In order to come up with ideas for the show we, first did some research by checking out other magazine shows and then we had to make spider diagrams with our own individual ideas for magazine shows and then pitch and compare them to everyone else's idea in the class. Once we had all pitched our individual ideas to the class we then merged some of the really good ideas together to create the theme of the show and possible content

The roles that people had to fill
Just after we planned our show and put all our ideas together, we started giving each other roles to fulfill in order to make our magazine show idea work. The roles that were available consisted of:

Floor manager
Camera operators
Visual mixer operator
lighting operator
Sound engineer
Set designer
Producer
Vice producer
presenters

My role and what I had to do
Whilst we made our TV magazine show I was given the role of a camera operator. I started of with a hand held as our early plans were to have one hand held camera for the show but the later on as things changed, I was given a tripod.

The purpose of the show
The purpose of the show was to entertain the students of City of Westminster and update them on fashion news relating to the London fashion show. We also wanted to update them on a few college opportunities at the same time as showing off our skills.

Who the Target Audience were
The target audience of our show is universal but mainly students of City of Westminster as they have a very big influence on the reason for creating more of a purpose for the show.

How did the show go and what could be done  to make the show better
The show was good but still many things could have been done better. For starters our set was very dull and plain. I think we could have done way more with the space we had. One possible way to improve the set could be to get more people to pitch ideas to the set designers and also maybe to get more materials.
Also I think we spent a bit too much time rehearsing our show and also not paying enough attention to our work. It helped us a lot but if we focused more while we were rehearsing we could have gotten more things done and had more time to improve things.

My over all opinion
Over all I would say we did a good job with our inserts and that our inserts show off most of our creativity. Also the live parts of the show were good but could have been improved.
