Recently I was given a task involving me pitching some pictures to a magazine. I had to do a bit of photography research, make a mind map and create a mood board and then take the pictures and pitch them.
At first I didn't really know what style of photography was most interested in after making my mind map so i decided to look online on and in magazines for pictures that inspired me. During my research I noticed that I was really drawn to pictures related to food or pictures of dishes from restaurant menu's. I then decided that the food photography style was how I was going to shoot my pictures and was most achievable.
I then started thinking of ways I could make sense of the food pictures and that's when the idea of incorporating my new diet in with the project. I decided that it would be a good way to show off the benefits of my diet and at the same time, show off my photography skills and narrow down my choices of magazines I could pitch my pictures to.
After establishing what pictures I would be taking I started taking them. I took the pictures of the course of 4 days. There wasn't any specific routine I followed, taking pictures was simply a case of taking of picture of a meal I was eating if my camera was near by. After taking the pictures, I realized that most of the things I shoot originally came from Tesco with the exception of roughly 3 pictures. I then came up with the idea to pitch the pictures to Tesco magazine and made my video pitch.
I thing I should have color corrected some of the photos to match the style of the photos I saw in the Tesco magazine and maybe added a suitable back ground for some of the pictures. I did get an idea to shoot my video pitch out side in a garden of some sort as my video pitch and photos was slightly themed to life style but due to the lac of time and help, I had to use the easiest option which was my room. Also I think establishing the magazine I wanted to pitch to before taking the pictures would have given me a better chance of achieving photos to a certain standard.
Although some of the pictures could have been better with a bit of color correcting, I think they came out well and the project over all came together pretty nicely. I enjoyed taking pictures of my meals and showing them to my friends and family so I would say the idea I came up with went very well. Also I was able to teach a few of my friends what a Pescatarian diet was.
